Background |
| Our team consists
of three informatics-engineering students and a
medical student. This mixture of educational
background was forced by this year’s imagine cup
theme, health issue, which
informatics-engineering students were quite
unfamiliar with. The collaboration however,
results a very interesting idea, by of course a
comprehensive approach from both, medical point
of view as well as software engineering point of
view. The team member that came from medical
background is responsible to define the software
requirements, while the rest of the team is
responsible for the implementation of the
software. All this, with a little spice of hard
work, results Sigap! |

inspirations |
Things that
inspires us in building our software are: a.
the fact that heart disease is the world’s
leading cause of death b. the fact the almost
everybody in the world likes music c. The
fact that many people, including ourselves like
to exercise to keep our body
fit.
According to the Center of Disease
Control (CDC) and WHO, heart disease is the
leading cause of death in many countries.
Physicians today recommend aerobic exercise
because it can decrease 59% the risk factors of
heart disease. In order to get the maximum
result out of our exercise, we have to maintain
our heart rate at its optimum rate. This is the
part where music comes to mind. The fact that
music can influence people’s heart rate leads us
to the making of Sigap! |

| Project
Overview |
| We have built a
system, specifically designed to optimize
exercising by keeping tabs on our heart pulse to
create optimum result for cardiac health. Sigap
maintain optimal heart rate on exercise with
music. Furthermore, the system can also be used
in competition mode, to give more excitement and
motivation to its users. |
| |
| |
| Technical
Overview |
| Current user's
heart rate is detected by a pulse detector,
which then sends the signal to Pocket PC
accordingly. The pocket PC will then play songs
that can maintain user's optimum heart rate in
order to optimize exercise based on user's
personal information and medical
history. |
